Management team

The Glacier exco team consists of highly qualified and experienced people, led by Anton Raath, our chief executive.

	Anton Raath: Chief Executive Anton was appointed chief executive in January 2005. He is a chartered accountant with higher diplomas in Accounting (University of Witwatersrand) and Tax Law (University of Cape Town). Anton has extensive experience in the investment world. He started his career at Ironside Greenwood before joining Southern Life in 1983. In 1996, Anton was appointed director: business services at Southern Asset Management. Two years later, he took up the role of their chief operating officer. He was appointed head of retail at Gensec Asset Management in January 2000. Later that year he was appointed deputy managing director and chief operating officer at Sanlam Investment Management. In 2002, Anton was appointed MD of Sanlam Private Investments while continuing to fulfill his role as COO of Sanlam Investment Management. He held these positions until appointed as chief executive at Glacier.
	Johann de Wet: Head: Business Solutions Johann has been part of the business for over 10 years and has played an important role in the developing and vesting of Glacier as a company. He was involved in the design and setting up of the initial product range in South Africa and Namibia. In his role as head of Business Solutions, Johann oversees the Product Development, Business Analysis and Legal teams, which aim to enhance the range of financial solutions available to investors as well as introduce specialist products tailored for specific economic/regulatory/market circumstances. Johann has a B.Sc (Actuarial Science) from the Rand Afrikaans University.
	Werner Lotriet: Head: Distribution Werner has an M.Comm: Human Resources Management: Industrial Psychology from the Rand Afrikaans University and is currently completing an MBA through the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business. Werner has acted as an HR Consultant for Sanlam IT, Sanlam Collective Investments, Sanlam Personal Portfolios, Sanlam Trust, Finance and Marketing. He was appointed Head of HR at Glacier in 2001. Werner currently leads the investment-focused distribution channel. The channel supports a select group of brokers countrywide with the full range of Sanlam investment solutions.
	Jaco van Tonder: Head: Business Development Jaco completed an Hons. B.Sc (Actuarial Science) at the University of Stellenbosch before joining the company in March 1998. He assisted in setting up the initial Sanlam/Macquarie agreement that led to the formation of Innofin (now Glacier). He is responsible for the Sales and Marketing department as well as for expanding Glacier's business activities.
	Garry Wilford: Head: IT Garry was appointed at Glacier on 1 July 2004. He has over 20 years of varied experience in the financial services industry through the Old Mutual group, followed by three and a half years at executive level in the IT services industry. He completed an MBA degree through the Potchefstroom Business School. His background includes information systems strategy, development, business process design and the creation and leadership of several new business ventures in the financial services and information services industries. He has also facilitated and led several organisational change initiatives. His responsibility is to lead the company's IT team.
	Michelle Möller: Head: Client Services Michelle was appointed in May 2005 as head of client services.  Her responsibilities include the Communication Centre, Operations and Investment Administration.  Before joining Glacier she worked for the online bank 20twenty for four years, where she was responsible for the contact centre and all aspects relating to customer experience.  She gained extensive experience in the life insurance industry working for eight years at Norwich Life (which became part of the Fedsure Group). Michelle also oversees Glacier's HR team. She has a BA (English and Psychology) and H Dip Journ, both from Rhodes University.
	Ahmed Banderker: Head: Finance Ahmed was appointed in November 2006 as head of finance.  He is a chartered accountant, having studied at UCT and Unisa.  After completing his articles at Fisher Hoffman PKF, Ahmed joined Sail Group Ltd as Finance Manager.  He then joined Shell in 2003, and was appointed as Financial Manager for Southern Africa in 2004.  In 2005 Ahmed took on the role of Finance Manager for Africa Lubricants, a division of Shell, which saw him leading a diverse team across different countries.  In addition, he was also appointed as a board member and shareholder representative in Shell's subsidiary companies in South Africa.  His key responsibility at Glacier is to lead the finance team and to work closely with the different departments, as well as various business units within the Sanlam Group, in developing and implementing the business strategy.
